London to Brighton
Media language:
At the beginning of the trailer there is a wide shot of Piccadilly Circus which is one of London’s most visited sites and is shown in many movies, There for the audience automatically know that the trailer is set in London. There is then a young girl who is seen sitting at a train station, a place were homeless people usually taking shelter from the weather and to beg for money. There is then a midshot of the girl in a shot with other older homeless scruffy looking women both of them smoking. This connotes that the girl is not in the right company also children being easily influenced this puts the audience in suspense as there aren’t many positive outcomes from a young homeless girl. There is also a lot of diegetic sound which builds to the suspense, The piano in the background slowly to where it disappears and the tempo of the music increases and ends with a gunshot which symbolises someone being hurt or maybe being killed. This than relates back to the mystery of what exactly happened in the trailer, why it happened and why the girl was homeless in the first place. There all mysteries.
Gender:
In this trailer the young girl is seen as vulnerable and being a female she is more likely to be a victim as shown in the trailer she is used for sex. During the trailer there is a scene in which both women are shown to be scared and have been abused. This again shows that they have been abused by the men shown in the trailer. It also shows men to be more dominant and in control by using women and even young girls to satisfy their sexual needs. Throughout the scene men are shown to be dominant to the point where the women are covered in blood and bruises and are chased by the man holding a gun. This film can be seen as degrading for women as women are shown to be vulnerable, scruffy dirty and victims.
In what ways is the film London to Brighton typical of a low budget British film? :
The trailer is typical of a low budget film as it did not have much publicity such as the trailer being on TV or billboards; the costs were kept to a minimal. Also the actors in the movie were new actors or not big named actors therefore costing less than having a Hollywood star. There is also no high tech equipment used, No special effects or stunts. Also the director of the film is not well known .
In what ways does the trailer promote the film to its target audience?:
It shows a young vulnerable girl in which most teenagers can relate to as they themselves are vulnerable. Also there is a fair amount of action and suspense in the trailer appealing to most men and even women as the main character is a women

Media Conventions
Slumdog millionaire:
At the start of the trailer there are 4 logos of well recognised companies, Fox, Warner brothers, film 4 and celadar films. This is then followed by a loud humming sound this attracts the attention of the viewer as from a moment of silence there is a sound of a woman humming and a purple screen showing awards the film has earned. There is then a screen showing a Roger Ebert a writer for the Chicago times views on the movie, “Danny Boyles ‘Slumdog millionaire’ is a triumph! “ . There is then the moments were the trailer reveals a person has beat high odds and won the game show. This promotes the movie as all the excellent reviews and showing well recognised companies in the beginning make people want to watch it as four big companies together in one film must mean the films good as companies such as fox can be related to many other movies and programs such as the Simpsons. There is also the theme song from the widely watched game show, who wants to be a millionaire. The main character is then shown in a series of dilemmas from in the beginning of the trailer the viewers know that there is a complication in how he won the show, And towards the end of the trailer a new character is introduced and it revealed that he went on the show not for the money but in the hope that this girl he once knew will see him and he can gain contact with her. The use of music in the background fuses the scenes in the trailer together as the fast tempo Indian music seems like it fits in with the surroundings shown in the trailer.
Trainspoting
In the beginning of the trailer there is a fast drumming beat which catches the viewer’s attention as it goes with the shot of the person running and also the fast changes of shots. There are also loads of loads sounds and talking. Also there is no mention of the actors or the directors till the end of the trailer were there are loads of flashing lights and names changing colours and flashing. Not having seen the film I cannot say whether the scenes shown in the trailer are shown in the movie.
In my opinion the Slumdog millionaire trailer is more effective as the attention grabbing music and also the mention of 4 world known movie companies has a attention grabbing effect as the audience would want to know how their new movie is if they’ve enjoyed a previous one.

Contemporary film trailers
Contemporary film trailers
What techniques does this trailer use to persuade an audience to see the film?
The movie starts off with a deep man’s voice saying “when the time magazine called 3D the future of movies, we doubt this is what they had in mind”. Starting off with this sentence tells the audience automatically that the movie is out of the norm, Followed by a scene of a powerboat going through a hedge again shows that the movie is not normal.
How are men represented in this trailer?
In this trailer men are represented in two ways, One way in which people would consider ‘adventurous’ and the other is just plain stupid. Also as they are young men it may reflect the stereotype of young males being careless as clearly the ‘stunts’ performed in the trailer could result in serious injury.
On the basis of this trailer, what target audience would be attracted to this film?
In my opinion this movie is aimed at the younger audience as they can see the adventurous side of the trailer, Also they can see the danger involved in these stunts but also see the funny side as most old people would just describe the trailer as being stupid. People in the C1, D & E category would most likely to the audiences of this film.
What Hollywood values and characteristics can you identify in this trailer?
The Hollywood characteristics seen in the trailer is the stunts which are more like pranks throughout the trailer.

Summary of articles
Bebo:
The first article is by a writer names Anna Pickard who writes for the guardian. The article is names “Bebo’s new soap is all product placements, no plot” this title tells us that the article is about bebo or bebo users. The secret world of Sam king is new short drama soap about a young man who bumps into famous musicians at work. However the writer of the article is not a big fan of the new soap and cross between “a careers day advert for entry level positions at large conglomerates, and every other Disney show banging around at the moment”. She also criticizes the lead actor by saying “shaggy haired teenage”. She also points out the fact that virgin sponsored the show as the brilliance of virgin was mentioned 9 times within a minute this is because they want their products to be advertised to bebo users who are also more likely to be involved with technology meaning that this makes them the perfect target audience. However she also talks about the good editing”very sharp and looks good”. However she says that even though she is not the target audience and that the episode is 3 minutes long it is not an excuse to lack a proper “plot”.]
The Internet is not leading us into the Dark Age
This article criticizes the internet for making people lazy and making them avoid reading. Saying that it helps people incapable of handling information, it basically talks about how the internet spoon feeds us information. He also adds to his point about the internet "stupefies" people by giving examples of conspiracy theories such as “Sadam Hussein was behind the 9/11 attacks “ and that the net is a unreliable source for information. Also to make his article seem less biased the writer names other authors and their books with similar views.

Film Homework
• What film genre are the most popular at present? Why do you think this is? (Consider technology, social & economic context)
In my opinion the most popular film genres are horror and comedy. In the stressful and busy lifestyles of today people need time to eliminate the stresses they face and just kick back and have a laugh whether it is with family , friends or even alone. Horrors also have a similar effect as being involved into the movie and not knowing what is going to happen builds suspense and then again is very entertaining.
Horror movies are also popular with recent audiences as new technology has made it possible to get realistic effects and catch the audience’s attention as you don’t really see crazy men chasing people with chain saws. This is what makes the audience
Comedy spoofs like scary movie make horror comedies, Using violence and other things generally horror movies use to make scenes funny. This is usually done by making things really unrealistic which make it funny as it is nothing like reality.
• What genres do you think were popular back in the 1930’s and 1940’s? Why? Give examples and show evidence of research
•
Movies popular in those days were usually heavily sounded black and white war films as this is what audiences could relate to but other genres such as gangster movies and comedies were shown. Films like “Stars” (1930) and “The adventures of Robin Hood (1938) were popular in days were entertainment consisted of either posters or the radio.

Analysis of 50 cent Reebok Advert
Analysis of 50 cent Reebok Advert
At the beginning of the advert there is a close up on droplets of water dripping into a puddle of water which is then highlighted with red light, this gives the effect of blood dripping into a puddle of blood alongside 50 cent mentioning he has been shot nine times. Also there is the sound of drips and an echo which reflects the isolated area 50 cent is in. Also at the beginning moments of the advertisement a ghetto neighbourhood shop is shown these is then a wide shot of a shoe hanging from a telephone line this is normally done when a gang member is killed in the streets, their shoes are thrown onto a telephone line to show that gang member has died here. This then adds to the drips of blood and ghetto neighbourhood and also the 50 cent talking about his near death experience. There is then the sound of a women screaming and police sirens which again adds to the denotation of violence. Also there is a low angle shot of 50 cent which makes him look bigger highlighting the fact that he is wearing reebok trainers, this again endorses the reebok products showing them to be something that would boost your status.
Reebok glamorised the violence in the advert to show that you can make it through many situations even if they are near death, and then show 50 cent wearing Reebok therefore saying that wearing Reebok will make you invincible and make you somewhat bulletproof. This would make young children or even teenagers who are usually easily influenced think that Reebok is one step ahead of all the other sporting brands as firstly it is endorsed by a celebrity and then it shows the celebrity who cheated death wearing Reebok. Also by glamorising violence they can relate to many teenagers who may have witnessed or be involved in the increasing violence seen on the media and in real life.
The target audience of this advertisement is teenagers and young males. The effect that this advert would have on young teenagers is that they would think that along with the shoes comes invincibility and street cred. This may have also made the viewers think that violence is more acceptable as 50 cent proved even after being shot nine. It also encourages violence as a background voice says “who do you plan to massacre next” and then shows 50 cent laugh which makes a serious matter seem of somewhat a joke.
In my opinion this advertisement should have been banned as it condones violence and a celebrity that has such influence over teenagers due to his music should not be telling his near death experience in the way he has and especially not in a reebok advert. Also I think the ghetto shop and the shoes hanging over a wire symbolise the typical American ghetto lifestyle which is now seen in loads of countries. Also it shows that from living in a ghetto you can become this person who is more superior just by wearing this shoes. Therefore in my opinion this advertisement should be banned.
